“It is sometimes a mistake to climb; it is always a mistake never even to make the attempt. If you do not climb, you will not fall- this is true. But is it that bad to fail, that hard to fall?”-{Neil Gaiman}

From a subjective point of view, Failure is not the opposite of success. It is the stepping stone and an integral part of success. We can learn so much from failure than we may learn from success.

When George Tawlon Manneh Oppong Ousman Weah decided to contest, contested and lost the Liberian national elections in 2005, many opposers and critics hurled out negative criticisms about his lack of proper formal education. The truth however was that, he lacked the requisite formal education. He did not even have a High School Certificate though he could speak various recognized languages including French, English, Italian, to mention but a few.

The most important thing was the fact that this iconic man was relentless, willing and ready to confront and correct any hiccups and challenges that might have been the reason for his downfall. He worked hard, forgetting about his critics, to obtain a High School diploma<SHS> at age 40, went on to DeVry University in Florida, where he obtained his bachelor and master’s degree in business management and public administration respectively at age 46.

Today, the 1995 World Footballer of the year and Ballon d’Or winner, the only African to still hold that accolade, is the President-elect of the republic of Liberia. Nothing is truly impossible in this world. It all depends on your determination to make good use of your today<present> to influence your tomorrow<future>!

“Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.”-[psalm 133:1]

We live in a world operated by the principle “Each one for himself”, a world where there is no synergy and flow between family and friends, a world where we take pleasure in the downfall of others, a world where we only think we are succeeding when we see others falling and failing.

There is absolutely no true gain when we live our lives competing against each other and trying to outshine each other. There is no true profit in trying to blow out the candles of others thinking it will make yours shine better and brighter. We should learn to stand together, live together and be one another’s keeper!

“Let a person rejoice when he is confronted with obstacles, for it means that he has reached the end of some particular line of indifference, and is now called upon to summon up all his energy and intelligence in order to extricate himself and to find a better way. “-(James Allen)

A man will not be judged by the number of times he failed but by the number of times he succeeded. The number of times a man fails I dare say does not really count. It should only remind him to work harder, and that, that’s not the time to quit or stop trying but to try harder and better again.

Adversity is a real learning tool and an opportunity to learn from life’s difficulties. Do not let adversity bog you down, rather see it as a catalyst to skyrocket you into greater heights!

“If you want to achieve Greatness, Stop asking for Permission”- (Unknown)

I begin to wonder if any opposition party in our country or any part of the world will ever commend the work of a reigning government to continue a particular feasible project they are about to, that would probably keep them in power for a countless number of years. Just like their name infers without any hyperbolic assumptions (OPPOSITION), they are bound to oppose the works/project whether good or bad. That is exactly how life is. Until we make the conscious efforts ourselves to make an attempt or take that bold step, no one will tell you to.

Albert, the greatest thinker that ever lived in this transient world, was told by his German school teacher that he would, “never amount to anything much”. That was undoubtedly a weightier comment to limit an upcoming star, yet this man did not wait for his master’s permission but rose to become a great STAR on planet earth. He used criticism and opposition as a bridge and did not allow them to become barriers and barricades to his personal success.

When it comes to improving our lives therefore, the only permission we need is from ourselves. Do not wait for anyone’s approval or permission before you decide to try in life; for the man who never tries does not usually make anything meaningful in life!

“Character is a person’s personal submission to the discipline of adhering to principles that protect his talents and gifts.”-(Dr Myles Munroe)

Every individual is born with a unique set of gifts and we gain additional skills, talents, expertise and experience as we use these gifts. However, no man is born with Character. We build and develop Character.

A man deficient in character is never guaranteed to stay on top forever to enjoy his enviable feat no matter his talents and skills, no matter his position or possessions and no matter how high he goes as far as the ladder of success is concerned.  He is bound to pay that great price due to the deficiency in his character.

Character must therefore be intentionally valued, esteemed and developed because it can Make and Unmake us!

“The heights by which great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night”-(Henry Wardsworth Longfellow)

One of the things that has set winners and great men apart since time immemorial is simply knowledge. That is to say they know something the rest don’t know or are doing something the masses never thought of doing at a certain point in time. Success never comes by accident and as a fluke. If you keep on doing what you’ve been doing, you will keep on getting the same results whether good or bad. This therefore underscores the need to develop a life long learning spirit to bridge the gap that makes all the difference (knowledge).

It is not enough to be like everyone else, trying to maintain the status quo. Set your own heights and break your own records. Be the DIFFERENCE, be a game CHANGER!

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that really counts”-(Winston Churchill)

No condition they say is permanent. One thing for sure I do also know is the fact that whether you succeed or fail, neither experience is also permanent. Everyday, every hour, minute and second for that matter is a growing opportunity for us to become better than who we are, not to grow complacent but to make progress; for the only thing that Changes Not is CHANGE itself. Change is CONSTANT and would surely come, not matter how long it might take!
